Elsevier launches online self-assessment for radiology board review
9 Dec 2010
Elsevier has announced the release of Case Reviews Online,
an online edition of Case Reviews print series offering
radiology professionals self-assessment preparation for board review.
The Case Reviews Online offers radiologists an online
solution for their clinical and board preparation needs. Detailed
cases, including 4-10 images and multiple choice Q&A organized
according to each radiologic subspecialty, include a presentation of
the key diagnoses of a particular subspecialty, multiple choice
questions and answers, high quality multi-modal images demonstrating
the entirety of a particular patient case, and links to other cases
and through the differential diagnosis.
“With boards transitioning from an oral format to largely
computerized/online format, radiologists need a resource that mimics
the format of official exams as well as the everyday clinical
experience,” said David M. Yousem, MD, MBA, Professor of Radiology,
Director of Neuroradiology, Vice Chairman of Program Development,
Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, and series editor for Case
Reviews. “By providing the trusted content of the print series in an
online format, radiologists will have a highly effective way to
prepare for radiology and pathology board certification,
recertification and practice.”
With this online component, radiology professionals are able to:
- assess their board exam readiness by taking timed "real"
tests or untimed "practice" tests;
- create customized tests organized by topic or level of
difficulty, and randomized tests composed of 10 cases from any
volume subscribed to; and
- review and test understanding of each case with
multiple-choice questions which include answers outlining right
and wrong answer rationale and a differential diagnosis
question.
“Because the Case Reviews print series is a market leader in
print resources for radiology board review for residents, it was a
natural progression for us to extend this well-known content to an
online resource to better serve our radiology market,” said Linda
Belfus, Senior Vice President, Editorial for Elsevier.
The Case Review Online series are currently available in
emergency radiology, pediatric imaging, vascular and interventional
radiology, musculoskeletal imaging, thoracic imaging, head and neck
imaging and brain imaging. Elsevier plans to add additional topics
to the series over the next year.
