Tepnel and SoftGenetics to offer rapid analytics for congenital disorders

27 August 2008

Manchester-based Tepnel Life Sciences plc (AIM: TED) and Pennsylvania-based SoftGenetics have announced an agreement to market and distribute SoftGenetics GeneMarker genotyping software for use with Tepnel’s Elucigene QST*R products for prenatal detection of common chromosome abnormalities.

Tepnel’s Elucigene QST*R kits are a range of rapid DNA diagnostic tests that use STR markers to detect the three most common viable autosomal trisomies: trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome) and trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome).

The combination of SoftGenetics GeneMarker software with QST*R will considerably streamline the data analysis process and results reporting time for users of the Elucigene diagnostic test kits.

Elucigene QST*R tests cover a range of DNA-based multiplexed diagnostic assays that use short tandem repeat (STR) markers to detect the three most common viable autosomal trisomies: Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome.

Additional markers on the sex chromosomes X and Y can detect the most common sex chromosome aneuploidies, Klinefelter syndrome and Turner syndrome.

Developed in collaboration with Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, Elucigene QST*R is a rapid testing technique that provides definitive results within 4 hours, including DNA extraction.
