29 July 2008
Agfa HealthCare has appointed Dr Volker Wetekam as its new Executive
Vice President for its global HealthCare IT division. Dr Wetekam will
head up an operation of around 3,000 staff members and report directly
to Christian Reinaudo, President of Agfa HealthCare. He will take up his
new position on 15 September, 2008.
In his new role, Volker Wetekam will define and implement the overall
strategic positioning and roadmap for Agfa HealthCare's IT division,
which manages both the company's Imaging Informatics and its Enterprise
IT business, covering solutions from picture archiving and
communications systems (PACS) over cardiovascular information systems (CVIS)
to hospital and clinical information systems (HIS/CIS). He will be
responsible for driving the division's overall profitable growth. Dr
Wetekam will also become a permanent member of the HealthCare
organization's Executive Committee.
Dr Wetekam has been with Siemens Medical Solutions since 1994. He
has held the position of Head of Siemens Medical Solutions' Managed
Services, Turnkey, eHealth, and Consulting business in Healthcare since
October, 2004. Additionally, he has been responsible for the Siemens
Medical Solutions Corporate CRM activities in the Healthcare sector.
Prior to this position, from September 2003 onward, he headed up the
company's global IT Marketing organization out of Philadelphia, USA.
"We are extremely pleased to have attracted such talent to our
organization", states Christian Reinaudo, President of Agfa HealthCare.
"His years of experience in the healthcare IT sector, and extensive
understanding of its challenges and opportunities, will further support
our company's transformation to a fully fledged healthcare IT provider."
"Agfa HealthCare has been a pioneering player on the PACS market
since the early 1990's and a major player in healthcare IT since that
time. Over the years I have watched the company evolve from an
analogue-based business to becoming a leading global healthcare IT
vendor," said Dr Wetekam. "Taking on the challenge of further
strengthening and expanding the company's leading market position in
healthcare IT will be a key priority for me in the years to come, and an
opportunity I look forward to."
Dr Wetekam will be based both in Mortsel, Belgium, at Agfa
HealthCare's global headquarters, and in Bonn, Germany, at Agfa
HealthCare's largest IT site.
