Anton J. Schmidt re-elected chairman of BVMed board

Berlin, Germany. Anton J. Schmidt (52) was re-elected as BVMed chairman of the board at the German Medical Technology Association’s annual general meeting in Berlin. He has headed the association since March 2004. Mr. Schmidt is executive chairman of Ethicon GmbH in Hamburg, which consists of 15 business divisions within the Johnson & Johnson company, as well as director of Ethicon Products Deutschland.

Stefan Widensohler (46), managing director of the KRAUTH group, and Dr. Helmut Leuprecht (64), chairman of the board of Lohmann & Rauscher Intern. GmbH & Co. KG, were appointed deputy chairmen of the BVMed board.

Other elected BVMed board members are: Dr. Friedhelm Bartels (Bristol Myers-Squibb GmbH Convatec), Carsten Clausen (Fresenius Kabi Deutschland GmbH), Dieter Buschmann (PAUL HARTMANN AG), Dr. Manfred Elff (SORIN Group), Andreas Hogrefe (BSN medical GmbH & Co. KG), as well as Dr. Meinrad Lugan (B. Braun Melsungen AG). BVMed director general Joachim M. Schmitt is also a member of the board. The new board was elected for two years.

Dr. Gerhard F. Braun, chairman of the board of Karl Otto Braun KG, who had been a board member since 1990, and Andreas Rudolph, managing director of the homecare company HTMa, who had joined the board in 2002, left the BVMed board at their own request.
