Siemens introduces interactive breastcare solution with customised DVD for patients

21 October 2005

Malvern, PA, USA. Siemens Medical Solutions has introduced MammoSmart, a network-connected interactive breastcare solution enabling medical imaging centres and hospitals to provide patients with their complete mammography history on a CD or DVD. When combined with Siemens Mammomat NovationDR full-field digital mammography system, it offers the complete women's healthcare solution.

MammoSmart, developed by DatCard Systems, Inc., is offered through Siemens' Accessory Solutions Group and can work in conjunction with hospital registration, picture archiving communication (PACS), and mammography systems to improve workflow. Because it is easily integrated into a facility's network, it can automatically record personal information onto a CD or DVD before the patient even leaves the exam room.

MammoSmart is customised with personal patient data and educational information including family medical history, mammogram images, answers to frequently asked questions, videos on procedures, and Web links to support groups. It can help alleviate patient anxiety often associated with mammography exams. Additionally, patients can view the CD or DVD's contents from the convenience of their home or take it to another physician for a second opinion.

"For women over the age of 40, the American Cancer Society recommends annual mammography screenings — a frequent source of anxiety among patients," said Denise Lippy, vice president, Special Systems Division, Siemens Medical Solutions.

Siemens recently announced the 100th worldwide installation of its MAMMOMAT NovationDR.
